Steps to Link Aadhar Card to PAN using SMS or Govt. Website

The government has made it mandatory to link Aadhar card with PAN, Bank account, Mobile Number and even social security schemes. Each of these services has a different deadline to link Aadhar card. The latest notification from Income Tax Department tells the last date of linking Aadhar card to Pan card is December 31, 2017.  Whether a person has linked his Aadhar card to pan card or not, he can e-file income tax returns but tax department will not process the returns until PAN and Aadhar card are linked.

So, it is suggested to all concerned people to link Aadhar card to PAN as soon as possible. Linking Pan to Aadhar card is made very easy by Indian Government. You can link Aadhar to Pan card through e-filing website (without login), link Aadhar card to Pan through e-filing web portal or link Aadhar number to Pan card simply via SMS.

Here, I am telling you steps to link your Aadhar card to PAN using all of the three methods I just mentioned above. Use any method which is comfortable for you and follow all of its steps correctly and have your Aadhar card linked to your PAN card within minutes.

Link Aadhar card to PAN using e-Filing Website (without registration)

Linking Aadhar card to PAN is just a 2-step process with this method and you don’t need to login or register anywhere.

Step 1: Visit Income Tax e-Filling Website using the following link – https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/. On the website from the left pane, click on “Link Aadhar” which is available under Quick Links section. It will take you to Aadhar Card to Pan Card link form.

Step 2: On the Aadhar link form, enter your PAN no., Aadhar Number and Name as it appears on your Aadhar Card. If you only have birth date mentioned in Aadhar card and not the name then tick “I have only year of birth in Aadhar card” option. Double-check all the entered details. Now, fill CAPTCHA verification or your can request Aadhar OTP which will be received to your Aadhar linked phone number for verification purpose.

Finally, hit the Link Aadhar button provided at the bottom and you’re done. Your Aadhar no. is now linked to your PAN card. If any detail mismatches, the form will prompt you the error message. If name on your PAN and Aadhar are different, you’ll be asked to either change your name on Aadhar card or PAN card.

Link Aadhar card to PAN using e-Filing Portal

If you want to link your Aadhar card to PAN inside your e-Filing account then follow these steps:

Step 1: Visit Income Tax e-Filing website using https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/. Here, REGISTER if you don’t already have an account or LOGIN to your e-Filing account by clicking link to Register/Login on the right.

Step 2: Once you log in to your account, a blue Popup will appear asking you to link your Aadhar card to PAN. You can either click it to directly navigate to the page from where you can link PAN to Aadhar card. If you don’t see any Popup message, navigate to Profile Settings >> Link Aadhar from Blue menu bar provided at the top.

Step 3: Clicking Link Aadhar will take you to the form where you need to enter only Aadhar card number to link your PAN to Aadhar card as other details such as Name and Date of Birth are already filled.

So, type your Aadhar number in the provided filed, enter CAPTCHA and finally hit the Link Aadhar button provided at the bottom to link your Aadhar to your PAN card. After you hit the button, you’ll see a pop-up message telling you that your Aadhar card has been linked to your PAN card.

Link Aadhar card to PAN using SMS

Income Tax Department has made it even easier to link Aadhar card to PAN by sending an SMS to 567678 or 56161. For this, you need to have your mobile number linked to your PAN. To link Aadhar card to PAN using the SMS-based linking method, enter your SMS in the following format:

UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><Space><10 digit PAN>

For Example, UIDPAN 123456789012 UFSVIH4KL5

Now, send the SMS to either 567678 or 56161, your PAN card number will be linked to your Aadhar instantly and you’ll receive an SMS notification confirming the same.
