The Eternal Debate: Are Macs Worth the Hype? An Honest Mac vs. PC Comparison

Are you looking for a new laptop? We’ve all been there, that age-old question that haunts those of us on the hunt for a new machine, are Macs worth it? Should I get a Windows machine, which is generally cheaper, or splash out on an expensive Mac?

With technology improving year-on-year and new Macs coming out every year and Windows launching a computer to compete, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed.

But here’s everything you need to know about a Mac vs PC.

Win vs Mac

1. Macs Are User-Friendly

Macs are an initiative to use. All of the apps you use daily are located with big icons along the bottom of your screen, known as the menu bar.

And if you need a program you don’t use as often you can simply open ‘Launchpad’ to launch off into cyberspace and get to where you need to be.

If you need to know how to open rar files on mac, it’s straight forward if you follow this guide.

The setup process is very easy. When you log on for the first time you will guide to input your details. Then you will input your email addresses and Apple ID. If you have a previous Mac computer or any Apple device such as an iPhone 11 then Apple will import all of your details for you.

If you enter your Gmail or Yahoo email addresses all of your emails and contacts associated with them will be added to your contacts and email program.

You will also be asked to set up Touch ID if you have a newer Mac that will make logging and authorizing certain tasks super easy. You will then be asked to import your debit and credit cards for Apple Pay.

If you are lucky enough to purchase a Mac with Touch ID then you will be able to pay for goods using the Safari browser with the touch of your finger.

2. The Apple Eco-System

Another great feature of buying a Mac is its eco-system. Every Apple device you purchase enhances your overall Apple experience.

If you have an iPhone or an iPad you can easily stop what you are doing on one device and finish on the other using the handoff feature. If you also own an iPad or the new iPad Pro you can use it as a second screen using Sidecar.

This is great if you want to make notes on your Mac but want to watch a video on the other or listen to music. It’s also great if you have an Apple Pencil and wish to draw on your iPad and then move your work onto your Mac when you have finished.

If you purchase an iPhone with an amazing camera any photos you take, e.g in portrait mode will be automatically stored on the Photos app which you can access from your Mac.

With an Apple TV, you can share your screen wirelessly to your TV which is perfect for a night in with friends and you can even take advantage of the year’s free Apple TV+ that is included.

The only minor setback is that this makes Apple’s ecosystem more closed to other devices compared with a Windows machine.

3. Beautiful Design

Apple products are known for their great design. Windows machines can be beautiful but they are more functional.

Apple’s latest Macbooks come in a variety of colors from rose gold to space grey. The Macbook Air is also designed to be one of the thinnest laptops on the market.

When Steve Jobs unveiled the first MacBook Air in 2008, he showed the world how it could fit into an envelope at a worldwide event. Yet it still had a full-size keyboard and an impressive screen.

Today Apple’s MacBook Airs are even thinner: 0.5 inches thinner than the previous model. Not even the Windows Surface laptops can compete with this. Are MacBooks worth the money? Since you can’t put a price on good design, yes.

4. Excellent Tech Support

Why buy a MacBook? Because Apple is renowned for its amazing tech support. If you have a problem with your Apple Mac and you take it to any Apple store, provided it’s in warranty, you can have it fixed.

There is a Genius Bar in every Apple Store so you can walk in and ask about any problems you might have. For more serious problems, your machine will be shipped to the nearest warehouse to receive spare parts. Microsoft does not have this level of support for its Windows machines.

The great thing about the Genius Bar is it’s not just about having your computer fixed but also about learning about your computer: you can attend workshops with the tech gurus for free.

Are Macs Worth It? Depends on What You Want

If you are worried about your budget for a laptop or computer then Macs are probably not for you as they don’t come cheap and you can expect to pay upwards of $1,000.

However, they will last you a long time and you know you will be getting a high-quality machine. Apple’s ecosystem makes it easy to connect all of your Apple devices up together in one place and switch seamlessly between them.

Apple computers are also user-friendly and easy-to-set-up. Perfect if you are a bit of a computer novice or you are buying a Mac computer for an elderly tech-phobic relative.
